The Victorian farm has been restored to show much of its original character and use, it offers a valuable insight into the past.
A new high-tech milking parlour demonstrates new farming practices and shows the origins of the milk which most of us see only on the supermarket shelf. Hand milking demonstrations show the old practices.
The heavy horses at Park Hall illustrate the magnificent animals that once worked the land, contrast these wonderful creatures with the tiny Shetland ponies used for pony grooming.
We have a small animal centre where children can meet rabbits, guinea pigs, chicks or ducklings and chinchillas.
The farm has exhibits and displays relating to farming such as the story of wool, milk production, from wheat to bread, food from around the world and our NEW Body Fuels exhibit which takes a fun look at nutrition. Our wheat to bread activity involves children in the following tasks: separating grain from the ears of corn, grinding wheat, and finally, working with salt dough to make loaves of bread. The world of food exhibit has several interactive features testing children's knowledge of the origins of food and of geography. The NEW Body Fuels exhibit is an interactive exhibit which aims examine to the concept 'we are what we eat', and to make us all consider the structure of our diet. In Spring time we look new-birth from egg to chick.
We also offer 'fun' activities such as a toy tractor circuit for under-eights, bouncy castles, soft play areas, giant games, a new undercover adventure climbing area called 'Monkey Business' and a wonderful woodland adventure playground. New for 2004 is a play village for younger children consisting of wooden playhouses in an outdoor setting.
Computers can be found in the restored granary. A wide variety of CD-ROMS on animals, nature, science and farming will support our other learning activities.
Welsh Guards Collection this stunning new collection, housed in its own building, depicts the history of a Guards regiment from its formation during the First World War to the present day. See scenes in the life of a guardsman: the barrack room (just the bare necessities), the Cell (no windows and hardly room to turn around), the Uniforms (a magnificent collection of impressive ceremonial uniforms and bearskins), the Weaponry (a large Browning machine gun captured during the Falklands Campaign in 1982), a sentry box from Buckingham Palace and much more.
